Each member tribe of the Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw Tribal Council (MDTC) receives referrals from provincial resource developers. MDTC maintains a database of incoming referrals for the Dzawada'enuxw and Kwikwasut'inuxw Haxwa'mis First Nations, and forwards referrals received to the appropriate First Nation. Hereditary Chief Charlie Williams handles referrals for the Gwawa'enuxw First Nation.
The process for referrals includes:
- Tracking all documentation regarding each referral for reference,
- review and research the application,
- formulate reports to the First Nation that the referral applies to,
- assisting to develop a written response to the referral and
- facilitate dialogue between the First Nation and the province aimed at addressing the concerns and issues that the First Nation might have with the referral.
